Physical medicine, also known as physiatry, is a medical specialty focusing on diagnosis, evaluation, and management of patients with physical disabilities. The primary goal of the physiatrist is to help patients reach their maximum physical, psychological, social, and vocational function through comprehensive rehabilitation. A physiatrist specializing in spine disorders is located within Dedicated Orthopedic Center.
Physical disabilities may arise from conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system such as birth defects, neck and back pain, sports injuries, or other painful conditions affecting the spine and limbs.
During treatment, the physiatrist utilizes a patient’s medical history, physical examination, X-rays, MRI, laboratory studies, and other diagnostic tools including nerve conduction studies. Dedicated Orthopedic Center physiatrist also specializes in guided spinal injections and non-surgical management of spinal disorders.
